What to Expect

Sunday School is a strategic ministry for the FCBC Walnut Family to Connect and Grow. We are committed to building up followers of Jesus through faithful interaction with the Bible and practicing what is learned within the church and the surrounding community. This time also serves as an intergenerational hub, where newcomers and regular attendees are able to interact more deeply with one another through sharing and collaboration. Come check us out on Sunday mornings, and let's Live Scripture and Love scripture together!

Community Group Training Class 9:00 AM - 10:20 AM | Ybarra, Room 9

Community Groups are designed to care for and connect with newcomers and seekers in a relational and missional community. At the heart of each group is a set of growing disciple-makers who are on-mission together for the gospel. Thus, these groups can vary in size, but will be anchored by a cohort of three to four disciple-makers. In essence, we want to make the gospel visible by putting real lives on display for the glory of Christ. The world needs to see real people, working through real struggles, yet finding victory in Christ. In this way, the greatest witness for Christ is the sanctification of His Church.

For three months, you will be trained on drawing near to God personally (discipleship), drawing near to one another (community), drawing out the struggles of others and applying gospel-centered care (missional and relational disciple-making). We will also focus on how to launch and lead Community Groups as a team.

How People Change: How Christ Changes Us by His Grace 9:00 AM - 10:20 AM | Ybarra MPR

Jesus said that He came to the world so that His disciples "may have life and have it abundantly." What does that mean and how does it look personally and corporately? To address that question, each of us needs to look at who we are through the mirror of God's Word, know and rely on what Jesus has done to rescue us from our sins, and take a step at a time together in faith and the power of the Holy Spirit.

This class is meant for everyone who wants to grow and impact others in the process. Come and be a part of this intergenerational hub of sharing and prayer as we rise to the challenge in pursuit of Gospel joy!   Publisher's Description: The Gospel of Jesus Christ promises a changed heart. But so many of us are stuck. We make sinful choices again and again. We’re trapped by repetitive selfish behaviors. Scripture tells us that change is a process, not an event. When the Bible talks about the gift of a new heart, it promises a heart that is capable of being changed. How People Change targets the root of a person – the heart.

When our core desires and motivations change, only then will behavior follow. Using a biblical model of Heat, Thorns, Cross, and Fruit, Paul David Tripp and Tim Lane reveal how lasting change is possible. You don’t need to be stuck anymore. In Christ, you are a new creation. The old has gone and the new has come. Discover your new potential in Christ.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12
